Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has asked the Vice Chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) Farid Uddin to apologize.

“Whether such happening took place on your orders or not, you bear the responsibility since you’re the institution’s leader,” the minister quipped, “I would apologize if I were you.” While meeting the teachers, she told the VC, “You must apologize to everyone.”

  • Education Minister requested VC to restore normalcy on campus before Feb 14
  • The minister on Friday held meeting with VC, other teachers and officials in Sylhet
  • Ending 7-day hunger strike earlier, agitating students continued to demonstrate

During the students’ hunger strike that ended on January 26, Dipu Moni spoke with them making video calls. On Friday, she travelled to Sylhet to meet with them in person to address their demands.

Representatives from the students, however, declined to comment on the meeting, stating that they would speak in details through a news conference.

The minister also said she will inform President Md Abdul Hamid of the students’ desire for the VC’s dismissal. For the first time in 26 days, VC Farid was seen emerging from his official residence on campus under strict protection to see the minister, accompanied by Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nowfel.
