Considering the increased demand of manpower during the upcoming football World Cup, Qatar has shown interest to recruit Bangladeshi workers in the fields of security, hospitality and transport.
Qatari Labour Minister Ali bin Samikh Al Marri in a bilateral meeting with Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmed said the tiny Gulf country is eager to hire skilled and semi-skilled workers for its development projects after the World Cup.
As per a message received in Dhaka on Wednesday, the meeting also discussed labour market development and its expansion in Qatar.
Imran said Bangladesh would do its best to extend support so that Qatar can hold the World Cup successfully. He also affirmed that Bangladesh will send necessary workers as per requirements.
Ali said his country will need workers in the field of security, hospitality and transport sectors during the World Cup slated to be held in November. He also hinted at recruitment of workers for construction projects that could start in mid-2023.
Senior Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office Md Tofazzal Hossain Mia urged the Qatari investors to invest in Bangladesh’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs). He also invited the minister to bring a business delegation with him during his next visit to Bangladesh.
