Move to streamline education in hilly areas; What’s the way forward?

The government has taken initiative to streamline the education system in the hilly areas. As part of this initiative, the number of students in the area, the type of institution, and the kind of education is required will be verified. Then a policy will be made for the development of the education system in the hilly areas.

On the basis of these key factors, the government will take steps to improve the quality of education in the hilly areas. Rupak Roy, Assistant Director (Administration) of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education (Maushi) has confirmed about the government’s initiative.

Chairman of the committee for the development of education system in the hilly area and Director of Maushi (College and Administration), Professor Shahedul Khabir Chowdhury said, “Students are still lagging behind in their studies in the hilly areas due to various reasons including communication system. We have taken multifaceted steps to overcome this. As part of this, an initiative has been taken to formulate a policy for improving the quality of education, including MPO enrolment of educational institutions in hilly areas.”

What experts say?

Educationists say that if this initiative of the government is implemented, there will be a qualitative change in the education system in the hilly areas.

Professor Sheikh Ekramul Kabir, a member of the National Education Policy Formulation Committee said that the initiative is certainly positive. Because the students in the hilly areas are still far behind due to various reasons including communication system. This initiative will play an effective role in taking them forward equally and will bring great change in the education system in the hilly areas.

It is learned that Maushi has already formed a 12-member committee to implement the government’s initiative. Maushi Director (college and general administration) Shahedul Khabir Chowdhury is the president of the committee. Maushi’s Deputy Director (Planning and Development), Anika Raisa Chowdhury is the Member Secretary. Maushi Deputy Director (General Administration) Bipul Chandra Biswas, Deputy Director (College-1) Md. Wahiduzzaman, Deputy Director (College-2) Enamul Haque Hawladar, Deputy Director (Secondary) Mohammad Aziz Uddin, Deputy Director (Training) Monalisa Khan, Deputy Director (Physical Education) Akhtaruzzaman Bhuiyan, Deputy Director (Monitoring and Evaluation) Selina Zaman, Deputy Director (Administration, Sesip) Prof. Dr. Samsun Nahar, Deputy Director (Equity, Sesip) Aminul Islam, Deputy Director (Programs, Sesip) Shipon Kumar Das are also in the committee
