Bangla to be used in every promotional SMS in Bangladesh

At an event held in the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission’s (BTRC) conference room, Telecom Minister Mustafa Jabbar officially inaugurated Bangla SMS service today. All marketing and system-generated texts and alerts will be sent in Bangla from now on.

  • This function will benefit a large number of Bangladeshi people.
  • Top corporates of Grameenphone, Robi, Banglalink and BTRC were present in the event.

As many people in Bangladesh still use feature phones rather than smartphones, and many struggle to understand English SMS, this function will benefit a large number of people.

Post and Telecommunications Division Secretary Md Khalilur Rahman, BTRC Chairman Shyam Sunder Sikder, Robi acting CEO M Riyaaz Rasheed, Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman, and Banglalink Chief Corporate Regulatory Officer Taimur Rahman were also present in the event and delivered their speech.
