Last week, Barcelona delivered a stunning performance by thrashing Real Madrid 4-0 in El Clásico, and today they continued their dominance with a 3-1 victory over city rivals Espanyol. Following a 4-2 loss to Osasuna on September 29, Barcelona has now scored at least three goals in each of their last six matches across all competitions.
In today’s match, all three of Barcelona’s goals came in the first half. Dani Olmo opened the scoring in the 12th minute, showcasing his striking ability. Brazilian winger Raphinha doubled the lead in the 23rd minute, and just eight minutes later, Olmo added a second to make it 3-0. Espanyol managed to pull one back in the second half through Javi Puado, but it wasn’t enough to challenge Barcelona’s dominance.
This victory marks Barcelona’s 11th win in 12 matches this season, solidifying their status as title contenders. Before Olmo’s first goal, the team had several opportunities to take the lead, but Olmo missed two chances—one hitting the bar and another going straight to the goalkeeper. Young star Lamine Yamal also impressed, providing a key assist and nearly scoring himself.
Despite Barcelona’s attacking prowess, they had a goal disallowed for offside prior to Olmo’s third goal, which he scored with a fantastic finish in the 31st minute. After taking a commanding lead, Barcelona missed additional chances as Espanyol attempted to mount a comeback.
With this win, Barcelona tops the La Liga table with 33 points from 12 matches, while Real Madrid trails in second place with 24 points from one match fewer. As the season unfolds, Barcelona’s relentless form poses a significant challenge to their competitors.
