Yannick Sinner has extended Novak Djokovic’s wait for his 100th career title. On Sunday, October 13th, Sinner clinched the Shanghai Masters trophy, defeating Djokovic in straight sets. The Italian star secured victory with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 scoreline, postponing Djokovic’s quest to become the third male player to achieve 100 singles titles.
This year, Sinner has already won seven titles, including the Australian Open and the US Open, making him the youngest ever to claim the Shanghai Masters title. Out of 71 matches this season, the 23-year-old Italian has triumphed in 65. This latest win also brings his head-to-head record with Djokovic to an even 4-4 and marks his third consecutive victory over the four-time Shanghai Masters champion.
After the match, Sinner commended Djokovic, stating, “It’s hard to pinpoint a secret to beating him because he has no weaknesses. You have to make the most of every small opportunity he gives. He’s a legend of the game, and facing him is always a challenge.”
