State Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Mohammad Ali Arafat, emphasized the global significance of the 22nd Dhaka International Film Festival, held from January 20th to 28th, 2024. Arafat believes that events like this enhance international connections and contribute to the fight against radicalization, fundamentalism, and terrorism.

The festival’s overarching theme, “Better Film, Better Audience, and Better Society,” underscores its role in promoting positive societal change through the medium of cinema. Arafat paid tribute to the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and honored the courage of freedom fighters and martyrs of 1971, acknowledging their sacrifices for an independent Bangladesh. He also expressed deep respect for the victims of the tragic events on August 15, 1975.

Since its inception in 1977, the Rainbow Film Society has passionately organized the Dhaka International Film Festival. The fervor of the film community adds a special touch to this event, fostering interactions between emerging and seasoned filmmakers, and facilitating the exchange of ideas. Such international film festivals play a crucial role in promoting cultural exchange, contributing to societal openness.

Beyond its global impact, the Dhaka International Film Festival has nurtured a supportive environment for the local film industry. Implicitly, it stands as a protest against prejudice and unethical business practices, striving to cultivate a progressive mindset. This festival serves as a platform for diverse opinions, encouraging a broader audience to embrace openness.

The presence of renowned figures like film director Mr. Majid Majidi and Indian Film Artist Sharmila Tagore, alongside distinguished guests from various countries, further elevates the program’s significance.
