70 percent of the country’s population is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to cast their votes in support of Sheikh Hasina, under her leadership

In a resolute and emphatic statement, Awami League’s General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister, Obaidul Quader, voiced strong condemnation against the perpetrators behind the horrifying incident of setting fire to a moving train, resulting in the tragic loss of four lives, including that of a child. Quader unequivocally declared that those responsible for this heinous act would not escape justice.

Quader likened the egregious arson attack on the train in Bangladesh to the distressing assaults witnessed by Palestinians at the hands of Israeli forces. He underscored the severity of the situation and vowed that the perpetrators of this appalling crime would face the full extent of the law.

Regrettably, arson incidents have become a frequent phenomenon during BNP-orchestrated hartals. Following the tragic arson of the Mohanganj Express, several additional incidents unfolded throughout the country, further emphasizing the urgency of addressing this alarming trend.

These regrettable events took place on Tuesday (December 19) during the nationwide dawn-to-dusk hartal orchestrated by BNP and Jamaat.

BNP’s Ongoing Sabotage

The frequency of BNP’s arson rampage is on rise day by day, it is disconcerting to report that four buses were deliberately set ablaze in distinct areas of Dhaka, including Khilgaon, Mohammadpur, and Gulistan, as well as in Chattogram. BNP’s destructive intentions took aim at a passenger train in Dhaka, with the apparent goal of causing widespread harm and destabilizing the atmosphere leading up to the upcoming general election. These deliberate acts of terror blatantly ignore democratic principles, as the party adamantly refuses to honor its commitment to

participating in the national election set for January 7th, 2024. It’s a troubling display of their continual disregard for human rights and their opposition to the welfare of the populace. Since October 28, the party’s support base has rapidly eroded due to their daylong mayhem across cities, resulting in the loss of at least two lives, including that of a police official, and the destruction of numerous public properties.

The rejection of the BNP’s widespread movement by the people has forced the party to resort to sabotage instead of engaging in democratic methods such as public rallies and processions.

Approaching elections has seen a drastic surge in their aggressive campaign. Since October 29, there have been reports of 12 fatalities and the torching of at least 580 vehicles during the hartal-blockade movement. On a single day, December 6, no fewer than 11 vehicles were set ablaze in coordinated arson attacks across the nation.

Defending Democratic Rights

Obaidul Quader vehemently warned against any hindrance to voters heading to polling centers during the elections, pledging unwavering resistance against such obstructive actions. Terming fugitive convict BNP leader Tarique Rahman as fake, the AL general secretary stated that “No movement will be waged in Bangladesh at his call as a foreign survey revealed 70 percent of people are eagerly waiting to vote in favour of Sheikh Hasina’s party and, those who will obstruct voters from going to polling centres will be resisted.”

In this context, Quader expressed hope that on January 7, the people would deliver their judgment against acts of arson, terrorism, and corruption. Bangladesh continues its democratic journey. Despite obstacles, the country has achieved substantial strides in solidifying its democracy and ensuring universal voting rights for all citizens. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has played a crucial role in making this advancement possible.

People Eagerly Waiting to Vote

Obaidul Quader stated that 70 percent of the country’s population is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to cast their votes in support of Sheikh Hasina, under her leadership.

Over the past 13 years, under Sheikh Hasina’s leadership, the government has propelled Bangladesh toward unprecedented development, especially

benefiting women. The public’s desire to reelect Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina underscores her crucial role in the nation’s progress. Bangladesh aims to transform into a developed, technologically advanced nation within two decades, relying on sustained growth and democratic stability, necessitating active voter involvement.

The commitment of Bangladesh’s government to ensuring free, fair, and unbiased elections is unwavering. With a history of peaceful democratic elections, citizens are confident that this tradition will continue in the upcoming 12th general election. Measures have already been initiated, such

as establishing an independent Election Commission, appointing commissioners through consultation, granting the Election Commission financial and administrative autonomy, inviting international observers, and registering all eligible voters, showcasing the dedication to an inclusive and fair electoral process.

Conclusion

Ahead of the 2024 national elections in Bangladesh, the Awami League is dedicated to driving a robust voter turnout. Their comprehensive approach involves rallying current supporters, involving beneficiaries of government programs, aiding vulnerable voters, and executing energetic door-to-door campaigns. Prioritizing an inclusive election with heightened participation, the AL seeks to establish a fresh standard in the political arena, setting itself apart from past electoral patterns. The effectiveness of their tactics, evident in recent local elections, signals a promising outlook for the imminent national polls.
