NVIDIA and SoftBank have taken a major step forward in telecom innovation, conducting the world’s first AI and 5G network test. This groundbreaking network, developed to support AI-powered radio access (AI-RAN), is designed to enable high-speed applications like remote vehicle control and advanced robotics operations.
For this project, NVIDIA created the Blackwell chip specifically for SoftBank, which is now being used in AI supercomputers. SoftBank has set up the first-ever outdoor testing environment in Fujisawa City, Japan. Utilizing NVIDIA’s GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip, a single server can handle the baseband processing for 20 5G cells with a 100 MHz bandwidth.
During testing, they used the 4.9 GHz frequency band and achieved impressive 5G speeds of up to 1.4 Gbps. This test represents a new era of AI-enhanced 5G networks, promising faster, smarter, and more capable telecommunications for the future.
