Severe floods have swept across Spain’s Valencia region, killing at least 51 people as of today, with rescue operations continuing amid the devastation. Torrential rains hit multiple provinces over the past 48 hours, causing widespread damage to homes, infrastructure, and farmland. Authorities have declared a state of emergency, deploying military and additional rescue teams to support local responders.
The Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET) reported record-breaking rainfall, with over 400mm in some areas within a single day. Rivers burst their banks, flooding streets and cutting off access to entire neighborhoods. Valencia’s regional government has urged residents to stay indoors, with emergency services advising against all non-essential travel.
National and local leaders have expressed condolences and pledged rapid assistance to affected communities.
