Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced the cancellation of the ‘Prottoy Scheme’, which was part of the proposed universal pension scheme which was launched on July 1 this year.
She made this announcement after a meeting with the central leaders of a professional coordination council at her official residence Ganabhaban on Saturday.
On March 13, the Ministry of Finance issued a notification to include public university-affiliated individuals in the Prottoy scheme. Since then, teachers and officials have been observing various programs including human chains, half-day work abstentions, and submitting memorandums. At one stage, they went on a full-scale work stoppage when their demands were not met.
