Democracy Must Stand Firm
There are so many different models of democratic government around the world that it is sometimes easier to understand the idea of democracy in terms of what it definitely is not. Even on the soil of the USA, in January 2022, American Democracy was at a major crossroads. We have all heard or read that assertion many times on cable TV, online editorials, and virtual community forums. The USA President Biden has called on Congress to pass new voting rights legislation but chances for Senate approval were uncertain.
A democracy, at least in theory, is government on behalf of all the people, according to their “will”. Bangladesh has its own pattern of democracy. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said democracy must continue in Bangladesh at any cost, reiterating her commitment to hold the next general election in a free and fair manner.
In this way of democratic spirit, Bangladesh is heading towards the National Election 2024. Capturing this mood, the Awami League, unveiled the party’s Election Manifesto 2024. The Election Manifesto underscores commitments to ensuring accessible healthcare for all, incorporating everyone into the public pension system, maintaining the effectiveness and accountability of law enforcement agencies, preventing communalism and terrorism, and securing the expansion of democratic governance at all levels.
The Election Manifesto portrays a promise of a Smart Bangladesh that revolves around the development, progress, and prosperity of the nation, emphasizing the creation of a smart Bangladesh through the fourth industrial revolution, incorporating the Delta Plan for the next 100 years, known as Vision 2041.
