Bangladesh Awami League Forms Election Manifesto Committee for Upcoming General Elections

Bangladesh Awami League has taken a significant step in the lead-up to the next general elections by forming an Election Manifesto Committee. The committee, tasked with shaping the party’s vision for the nation’s future, boasts the seasoned leadership of Dr. Abdur Razzak as the convener and Dr. Salim Mahmud, the Information and Research Secretary, as the member secretary.

The announcement of the formation of the Election Manifesto Committee came just before the party’s President and Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, embarked on her visit to the United States to participate in the United Nations General Assembly session. The move underscores the party’s commitment to charting a clear course for the country’s future

Dr. Salim Mahmud: A Distinguished Profile

Dr. Salim Mahmud, currently serving as the Secretary of Information and Research on the Central Executive Committee of the Bangladesh Awami League, boasts a rich and diverse background. As an educationist and professor at Dhaka University, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the committee. Additionally, Dr. Mahmud is recognized as an international energy expert and a prominent national political figure.

His contributions to education include the founding of Palakhal Rostam Ali Degree College in Kachua, Chandpur, Bangladesh, demonstrating his commitment to the betterment of society through education.

A Brief Overview of Dr. Salim Mahmud’s Career

  • First Law Secretary of the Bangladesh Chhatra League.
  • Teaching experience at the Department of Law, University of Chittagong.
  • Ph.D. in Energy Law and Policy from Dundee University’s Centre for Energy, Petroleum, and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP), UK.
  • Notable achievements during his academic journey, including Special Dean’s Award for outstanding Ph.D. research performance.
  • Diverse roles, including membership in the Bangladesh Bar Council Legal Education Committee and adjunct faculty at North South University, Bangladesh.

Notably, Dr. Salim Mahmud assumed the prestigious position of Chairman at the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC). Before this appointment, he had a distinguished career as a faculty member at the Department of Law, Dhaka University, Bangladesh.

Meeting on Manifesto

In the meeting, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader highlighted the need for a concise and focused approach to the party’s manifesto. He emphasized that the upcoming manifesto for the general elections would be presented in a bullet-point format, recognizing that people often have limited time for extensive reading.

Regarding the upcoming elections, Quader asserted that they would be conducted in line with the country’s constitution, assuring that the elections would be free and fair.

The Election Manifesto Formulation Committee comprises esteemed members such as Dr. Mashiur Rahman, Dr. Anupam Sen, Dr. Sattar Mondol, Dr. Bazlul Huque Khondker, Prof. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Dr. Shamsul Alam, Dipu Moni MP, Dr. Hasan Mahmud MP, SM Rezaul Karim MP, Shekhar Dutta, Dr. Maksud Kamal, Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman, Professor Khairul Hossain, Professor Sadeka Halim, Sajjadul Hasan MP, Advocate Tarana Halim MP, Wasiqa Ayesha Khan MP, Barrister Biplob Barua, Zunayed Ahmed Palak MP, Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nawfel MP, Professor Mohammad A. Arafat MP, Advocate Sayem Khan, Sadiqur Rahman Chowdhury, and Sabbir Ahmed.
