Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has allocated Tk9 crore to the traders and employees affected by the recent fire in Bangabazar. The money has already been disbursed to the traders’ mobile phones as an Eid gift. The announcement was made by the Prime Minister’s Chief Secretary Mohammad Tofazzel Hossain Miah on April 18 (Tuesday).

On April 4, a devastating fire engulfed the Bangabazar Market in Dhaka, spreading to nearby markets and burning over 5,000 shops to ashes. Firefighters from 48 units worked for six hours to bring the fire under control.
The fire caused enormous loss to the traders and employees of the shops in the market. However, the gift from the Prime Minister will provide much-needed relief to the affected individuals during the upcoming Eid festival.
