Qatar is going to take more workers from Bangladesh in the fields of nursing, hospitality, construction, service and IT sectors. Labour Minister of Qatar Dr Ali bin Saeed bin Al Samikh Al Marri said this in a meeting with Bangladesh’s Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmed on August 21.
The Minister for Labour of Qatar Ali bin Samikh Al Marri expressed his satisfaction over Bangladeshi expatriate workers in Qatar and appreciated their role in economic development of Middle East countries. He also termed the workers of Bangladesh ‘very hardworking and responsible.’

He said foreign workers in future will be eligible to receive all the same benefits as domestic workers due to the revision of Qatar’s labour law. He also emphasised on sending skilled workers from Bangladesh to various fields suitable for Qatar’s growing labour market.
Apart from this, he informed, a welfare fund has been established for workers employed in Qatar. Money is paid from this fund if an employer fails to pay dues, said Marri. He also emphasised on Bangladeshi workers staying there to abide by the laws of Qatar.
Qatar’s Ministry of Labour Assistant Undersecretary Hassan Al Obaidli, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Qatar Md Jasim Uddin, Director General of Manpower Employment and Training Bureau (BMET) Shahidul Alam and Additional Secretary of the Ministry Mallik Anwar Hossain and others were present in the meeting.
