Country’s apex ICT trade body Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) is going to participate in various events in four European countries – Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and the United Kingdom during 30 June-06 July in collaboration with the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Bangladesh High Commission in London, and Bangladesh Mission and permanent embassy in Vienna.

These ICT industry promotion campaigns in four countries will highlight the immense export potential of Bangladesh ICT sector that it is ready to offer– tagging it as the next ICT powerhouse. BASIS delegation would be meeting around 350 companies during its visit to Europe.

BASIS is working to advance the IT sector with a special emphasis on the seven pillars, of which, the ICT industry promotion and also foreign market development are two pillars. Consequently, BASIS has taken this new initiative to be the “Headline Partner” for the first time in any international event to promote and expand the IT sector footprint of Bangladesh in the European markets. On this occasion, a press conference was organized on June 28 at the BASIS auditorium.

Russell T. Ahmed, President, BASIS has presided over the press conference and it is participated by Ms. Samira Zuberi Himika, Senior Vice President, BASIS, AKM Ahmedul Islam BABU, Director, BASIS, M Rashidul Hasan, Chairman, BASIS Advisory Standing Committee, TIM Nurul Kabir, Chairman, BASIS Standing Committee on International Market Development, among others.

Speaking on the occasion, BASIS President Russell T. Ahmed said that BASIS is working to increase the exports of the ICT sector on a priority basis in view of the Prime Minister’s announcement of “ICT Product of the Year”. The export earnings of country’s ICT sector have reached US$1.4 billion this year leaving us with no alternative to branding and continuous promotion for increasing it to US$5 billion, he added.

With this goal of branding and harnessing widening-up ICT export opportunities at the international market highlighting our successes, this time we are directly participating in four major events in the European market, he mentioned.

Ms. Samira Zuberi Himika, Senior Vice President, BASIS said, “Our member companies are doing business successfully not only in the UK or Europe but also in other markets around the world”. With this success in mind, we are working on how to expand the presence of our IT sector in all markets, she added.

AKM Ahmedul Islam BABU, Director, BASIS said, “We are working hard to implement the goals set by the Government of Bangladesh and BASIS”. According to various international surveys, different countries of the world including Japan are giving priority to Bangladesh in terms of partnership in ICT, he added.

The BASIS delegation will visit Austria and Slovakia on 30 June, Hungary on 01 July and the United Kingdom from 02-06 July 2022, as part of this year’s campaign to promote Bangladesh’s ICT sector.

The delegation is comprised of BASIS President Russell T. Ahmed, BASIS Senior Vice President Ms. Samira Zuberi Himika, and BASIS Vice President (Admin) Abu Daud Khan.

This year, the flagship event of the Global Sourcing Association (GSA) — “Festival of Sourcing” will be held during 05-06 July 2022 in the United Kingdom. For the first time, BASIS is going to set a new milestone by becoming the “Headline Partner’ of this flagship event supported by Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
