After Moscow ordered soldiers to be deployed in eastern Ukraine, Japan will impose a series of economic penalties against Russia and two pro-Russian separatist territories by Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

According to the prime minister, officials from the two areas will have their visas revoked and their assets were frozen by the government. Exports and imports to and from the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk will be prohibited, as well as the issuance and trading of new Russian sovereign bonds in Japan.
Kishida also stated that Russia’s actions had infringed on Ukraine’s sovereignty and urged Russia to resume diplomatic talks. If the situation worsens, Japan is prepared to take more measures.
