A new study has revealed that about 50 per cent of the Covid-19 patients suffer from long-term physical and mental complications. They suffer from these long-term problems for six months or more.

The study, which was published in the journal ‘JAMA Network Open’ says, the health problems known as ‘Long-term Covid’ or ‘Long Covid’ vary from person to person. The study which was conducted on 2,50,351 adults and children found that, more than half of those who recover from Covid-19 are unable to return to normal life. Among them, many suffer from various physical complications including weight loss, fatigue, fever and pain in different parts of their body.

• Entering human body through respiratory tract, Covid can infect every part of body
• Chest pain, palpitations are very common among recovered patients
• WHO warns of long-term effects of Covid-19 as much of this virus still unknown

Of the patients, 20 percent are not able to function normally like before, 25 percent suffer from thinking and attention problems. In addition, 30 per cent have increased anxiety, 25 per cent have respiratory problems and 20 per cent have hair loss and skin rashes. Heart problems such as chest pain, palpitations are very common amongst the recovered patients.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently warned about the long-term effects of Covid-19 terming it ‘Long Covid’. Novel Coronavirus affects every part of the body, according to the WHO officials, and its long-term effects can be serious. Symptoms can range from shortness of breath to heart disease. Much is still unknown about Covid-19. Mostly about its Omicron variant. Omicron has not spread in the world for a long time. So, there was not enough time to study whether it has long-term effects.

In general, Covid-19 is thought to be a disease of the upper respiratory tract. But researchers at the World Health Organization say, “It is a systemic disease. Dr. Abdi Mahmud, an official of WHO, said that, “Covid affects every part of the cardiovascular system for a year and beyond. The health risks and complications of Covid is not limited to respiratory diseases. Of course, the virus enters the human body through the respiratory tract, but it can infect every part of the body through the bloodstream. Therefore, there is no alternative of caution to stay free from the long-term complications of Covid-19. diecsese
