In a strategic move to ensure the safety and security of citizens during the ongoing 48-hour road, rail, and waterways blockade, the government has taken decisive action by deploying a significant number of dedicated personnel from Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
As the BNP-Jamaat-led Hartal/Blockade enters its 6th phase, the Government remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of the people. Since the declaration of the first round of Strikes on 28th October; the government has implemented comprehensive and stringent security measures in order to address the threat of arson and anarchy.

It is noteworthy that, according to official statements from the Fire Service and Civil Defence, a collective total of 197 vehicles and structures were intentionally set on fire across the nation from October 28 to November 20. These incidents occurred amidst a countrywide strike and blockade organized by the BNP-Jamaat alliance and their supporters. Remarkably, the majority of these attacks, numbering 132, were centered in Dhaka Division, with 95 specifically directed at the capital city. Tragically, the post-October 28 violence has claimed the lives of at least 11 individuals, including a police constable and a journalist.
Vigilant From The Start
The arson and vandalism carried out by BNP-Jamaat is not a new development. They have, during past elections, attempted to derail the democratic process by similar acts of violence. The government, already experienced and anticipating their actions, implemented comprehensive and stringent security measures to prevent the scale of violence from getting out of hand.
During the first round of Hartals, 300 patrol teams of Rapid Action Battalion were deployed. Intelligence and surveillance were also beefed up to ensure that would be perpetrators could be caught before they carried out their attacks. Special strike teams of police and RAB were kept in standby to respond to any crisis situation.
Current Security Steps
A recent media release from the BGB headquarters sheds light on the comprehensive measures adopted, revealing that an impressive total of 232 platoons of BGB have been strategically positioned across the entire expanse of the country. This deployment signifies the government’s commitment to maintaining a robust presence, fostering a sense of security among the populace.
Simultaneously, RAB has stepped up its efforts with the deployment of a staggering 432 patrol teams spanning the nation. This proactive measure aims to thwart any untoward incidents that may arise during the blockade, showcasing the government’s dedication to preserving peace and order.
What sets this operation apart is the meticulous attention given to the security of public transportation. The elite RAB force is diligently overseeing the protection of buses and goods-carrying vehicles along extensive routes affected by the blockade. This not only ensures the smooth flow of essential services but also demonstrates the government’s unwavering commitment to facilitating the daily lives of citizens.
Intelligence Teams On Alert
To further fortify the security apparatus, intelligence teams are actively monitoring key locations such as bus stands, train stations, and other vital areas. This vigilant stance serves as a preventive measure against potential acts of violence and sabotage. The government’s emphasis on intelligence-led strategies reflects a forward-thinking approach to crisis management, underlining its dedication to safeguarding public spaces.
Timely Steps Reduces Scale Of Violence
As the nation navigates through this challenging period, the government’s multifaceted approach underscores its commitment to citizens’ well-being. The orchestrated deployment of BGB and RAB personnel, coupled with a focus on securing public transportation and intelligence-led monitoring, exemplifies a thoughtful strategy aimed at ensuring the uninterrupted flow of daily life while upholding the principles of law and order.
As the country draws nearer to the 12th National Elections; the government’s proactive stance and strategic deployment of security forces underscore its dedication to preserving peace and stability. This comprehensive approach not only addresses the immediate challenges posed by the blockade but also showcases a commitment to safeguarding the nation and its citizens against potential threats.
