The percentage of students who failed the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations has decreased compared to the previous year. This year, a total of forty-eight educational institutions in the country had zero students passing the exams, while last year the number was fifty.
Specifically, among the institutions that participated in the exam, 16% of students were unsuccessful in 1,610 institutions, while 7.92% of students passed in other institutions. The education minister mentioned that last year also, fifty educational institutions had a 100% failure rate. It is found through investigation that most of these institutions are non-MPO (Monthly Pay Order) enlisted. Moreover, these institutions had only 2 to 4 examinees taking part in the examination for which the failure of these few students increased the number of educational institutions with zero pass rate. However, these institutions are advised to take exceptional care of these students and ensure their participation in the examinations.
Prime Minister Encouraged Underachieving Students
Sheikh Hasina said, “Those who have failed, I will tell them one thing – there is nothing to be disappointed about. Disappointment only harms a person more.”
She expressed hope that these students would prepare better and pass successfully in the future if they become determined to pay more attention to their studies. With a little more focus and dedication to studies, satisfactory results can be acquired. Rather than complaining about failure, she encouraged the parents to motivate their children to study diligently. She emphasized showing more love and support to the students in their studies.
“Do not scold or rebuke those who have failed. Encourage them with more affection and love to focus on their studies.”, PM Sheikh Hasina added.
The Prime Minister pointed out that comparing oneself with others who have scored well but faced similar failure is not the right thing to do. She stated, “That comparison is not correct. Show more empathy towards those who have failed. Parents will especially observe how much more attentive they can be to their studies.”She urged the teachers to be more attentive and considerate towards the students who have faced failure so that they can succeed in the future.
