India has set a new world record in T20 cricket, claiming victory over South Africa by 11 runs in a thrilling match. With this win, India has now scored 200 or more runs in T20 games eight times in 2024—a feat unmatched by any team in a single calendar year.
After being sent in to bat, India faced an early setback as Sanju Samson was dismissed on the second ball. However, Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma formed a powerful 107-run partnership. Abhishek contributed 50 runs before getting out, while Tilak’s sensational 107 off 56 balls, including 8 fours and 7 sixes, led India to a total of 219 for 6. Ramandeep Singh’s quick 15 off 6 balls provided the final push.
In response, South Africa fought valiantly with Marco Jansen scoring a rapid 54 off 17 balls and Klaasen adding 41 off 22. But regular fall of wickets saw South Africa fall short, ending at 208 for 7. This victory gives India a 2-1 lead in the four-match series.
