The Awami League and the BJP, both parties seeking to deepen their engagement on matters of mutual interest and regional significance
A delegation of five prominent members of the Awami League, Bangladesh’s ruling political party, is set to undertake a significant three-day visit to India on the invitation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The delegation will be led by Dr. Abdur Razzak, a member of the Awami League presidium and also serving as the Minister of Agriculture. This visit aims to enhance bilateral relations and foster stronger ties between the two neighboring nations.
Delegate members
Joining Dr. Abdur Razzak in the delegation are other notable figures from the Awami League, including Hasan Mahmud, the Joint General Secretary and Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Sujit Roy Nandi, Organizing Secretary, Marina Jahan, Executive Committee Member, and Aroma Dutta, Member of Parliament. The delegation member, Sujit Roy Nandi, confirmed the details of the visit.
Party to party visit
The invitation from the BJP comes as part of the party’s ongoing efforts to strengthen connections with political parties in various countries, with a special emphasis on neighboring nations. The BJP’s International Affairs Department Chief, Vijay Muralidhar Chauthaiwal, extended the invitation to the Awami League in May, initiating a “party to party” visit.
The Awami League leaders will receive a concise overview of the BJP and its functioning during the visit. Chauthaiwale mentioned that they are currently working on scheduling a meeting with BJP President JP Nadda and some senior ministers, taking into account the ongoing Parliament session.
Originally scheduled for July 20, the visit was later postponed to July 29 due to scheduling conflicts involving key personalities, including the Prime Minister of India. As both Bangladesh and India are gearing up for national parliamentary elections in the coming months, this visit holds particular significance, reflecting the importance both parties place on fostering strong bilateral relations.
Delegation will engage in multiple meetings
During the three-day visit, the Awami League delegation will engage in multiple meetings with representatives of the Indian government and the BJP. Among the scheduled meetings, the delegation is expected to hold discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, further solidifying the relationship between the two parties.
Additional meetings are planned with India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, to explore avenues of cooperation and mutual understanding on various regional and international matters. The delegation will also have the opportunity to meet other influential political leaders, including BJP President JP Nadda.
The delegation will also have the opportunity to meet with leaders of BJP’s Yuva Morcha and Mahila Morcha. Additionally, they will be taken to the Prime Minister’s Museum and the War Memorial, which holds plaques commemorating the individuals who lost their lives during the 1971 Bangladesh War of Independence.
The visit holds great promise for strengthening the ties between the Awami League and the BJP, with both parties seeking to deepen their engagement on matters of mutual interest and regional significance. The discussions and outcomes of the meetings during this visit are expected to pave the way for enhanced cooperation and collaboration between Bangladesh and India in the future. As the delegation sets off for New Delhi, all eyes are on the potential outcomes that will shape the political landscape in the region.
