An explosion occurred in a building on Mirpur Road in the Science Laboratory area of the capital on Sunday morning at 10:50 am. The explosion was followed by a fire, which the fire service worked to control, successfully extinguishing the flames by 11:20 am. However, 13 people got injured in the incident.
According to fire and police officials, some parts of the building have collapsed due to the explosion, and black smoke was seen engulfing the building on the third floor. Traffic in front of the building has been blocked.

Four units of firefighters rushed to the scene of the explosion after receiving information, said Khaleda Yeasmin, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence control room. She added that some sources have claimed that an air-conditioner exploded while others have suggested it was a cylinder. The firefighters are on the spot, trying to determine the cause of the explosion. The investigation is ongoing.
