A Nation Rejects the Verdict

On 17 November 2025, the Bangladesh Chhatra League issued,  signed by Saddam Hossain, President of Bangladesh Chhatra League, and Sheikh Wali Asif Inan, General Secretary,  a sweeping and defiant statement signed by its president Saddam Hossain and general secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan. The organization declared that the people of Bangladesh reject with contempt the illegal government, its unlawful ordinances, its illegitimate tribunal, and its void verdict. According to the statement, a nationwide uprising of students and citizens has begun against what they describe as a fascist government led by Muhammad Yunus.

The day is described as one of the darkest chapters in the history of independent Bangladesh. The statement portrays the verdict against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina as the product of a judicial farce and a calculated act of political suppression. It accuses the current rulers of staging a mock trial under the command of an unconstitutional authority, using what it calls a kangaroo court to impose a predetermined judgment.

A Direct Attack on the Mandate of the People

The Chhatra League argues that the verdict strikes at the heart of national sovereignty and democracy. Sheikh Hasina is portrayed as the figure who ensured security, stability, and unprecedented development across the country. Describing her as the heartbeat and the democratic compass of the nation, the organization declares that the ruling delivered against her is a naked conspiracy aimed at crushing the achievements of the people.

They state that the country has fallen into absolute lawlessness under a mandate less administration, and that the verdict represents the peak of that condition. The government is condemned as the successor to the exploiters of the past, working in alliance with anti liberation groups and fundamentalist forces. The statement asserts that the current rulers seized power through foreign support, militant alliances, and a so called color revolution aimed at reversing the spirit of the Liberation War.

Historic Parallels and a Call for Resistance

Invoking history, the Chhatra League compares the present moment with the colonial era and the early years of Bangladesh. They claim that just as the sentencing of Khudiram could not stop the decline of empire, and just as the military trial of Bangabandhu could not halt the birth of the nation, the verdict against Sheikh Hasina will not stop the struggle for the return of democracy.

The statement describes Yunus as an occupying and illegitimate ruler whose actions have already inflicted widespread grief. It argues that the people and the student community will answer this injustice on the streets by dismantling the stronghold of the current authority.

From the moment the verdict was delivered, the Chhatra League declares a final revolt. They cite the success of previous shutdowns and lock down programs and announce that their only objective now is to force the resignation of the current rulers.

Declaration of a National Movement

The Chhatra League vows to join with the Awami League and all allied bodies, along with citizens who believe in freedom and democracy, to launch a mass resistance across the country. Leaders and activists, they say, will take to the streets even at the risk of their lives.

Their message is explicit: the government must resign immediately and hand power to a democratically elected administration. They pledge to restore constitutional rule and ensure justice for those who committed violence and treason in the process of seizing power.
