Dhaka police recovered the body of an American national from The Westin Dhaka in the capital’s upscale Gulshan-2 area on Thursday.
The deceased, identified as Terrence Arvelle Jackson, 50, had checked into Room 808 on August 29 and had been in Bangladesh for several months on a business trip, said Inspector (Operations) Mizanur Rahman of Gulshan Police Station.
According to police, hotel staff attempted to contact Jackson in the afternoon but received no response. The authorities then alerted police, who, along with officials from the US Embassy, entered the room using a master key and found him unresponsive.
Gulshan Police OC Hafizur Rahman confirmed that CCTV footage from the hotel covering the previous two days showed “nothing suspicious.” He added, “We primarily suspect natural causes. A medical team from the embassy was present during the recovery, and the body was handed over to them.”
Significantly, no autopsy was performed before the body was released to the US Embassy. Both the hotel management and embassy officials declined to comment on the matter.
