The blockbuster Pushpa 2, starring Allu Arjun, has been a sensation since its release, breaking box office records and captivating audiences. Recently, the film’s extended version, featuring an additional 21-minute sequence, hit theaters. However, its immense success has drawn the attention of India’s Income Tax Department, leading to high-profile raids on the film’s director and producers.
On Wednesday morning, income tax officials raided the Hyderabad home and office of Pushpa 2 director Sukumar. At the time, Sukumar was at Hyderabad airport, where authorities continued their search. Allegations of tax evasion have surfaced against Sukumar, with officials meticulously reviewing financial documents. Despite the unfolding events, Sukumar has not yet issued a public statement.
The film, which has grossed an astounding ₹1,830 crore, has also led to investigations at the residences of producers Naveen Yerneni and Ravi Yalamanchili. The Income Tax Department is scrutinizing all financial transactions related to the massive earnings.
The raids have expanded beyond Pushpa 2. The homes and offices of Game Changer producer Dil Raju and Mango Media owner Ram were also targeted. Dil Raju’s wife was taken to a bank, where their lockers were inspected. While Dil Raju described the raids as “routine checks,” the Income Tax Department has yet to release an official statement.
With allegations of tax evasion casting a shadow over the success of Pushpa 2, the film industry awaits clarity on the outcomes of these high-stakes investigations.
