Mumbai police have arrested a Bangladeshi national, Muhammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, following a dramatic 70-hour manhunt after he allegedly broke into Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan’s luxury apartment. The suspect, a former wrestler, was apprehended in Thane, 35 kilometers from Mumbai, on Sunday morning.
The shocking breach occurred in the early hours when Shariful scaled to the 13th floor using pipes and broke into Saif and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s residence by smashing a bathroom window. The housekeeper’s screams alerted Saif, leading to a confrontation. Remarkably, the attacker claimed his wrestling skills prevented injuries during the altercation.
Shariful reportedly arrived in Mumbai six months ago and worked odd jobs across India. Police tracked him using UPI transactions he made for food and water while evading capture. Despite his lawyer’s claims of Indian citizenship, authorities identified him as a Bangladeshi citizen who entered India illegally.
Saif, recovering from the ordeal, is under medical observation. The incident raises serious questions about the security of high-profile residences, highlighting vulnerabilities even with biometric access systems in place. Shariful remains in police custody, with investigations ongoing to determine the full extent of his motives.
