Barcelona Stumbles to Draw Amid Racist Abuse Scandal

Barcelona dropped points once again in La Liga, drawing 1–1 against relegation-zone side Getafe at the Estadio Coliseum. Jules Kounde’s 9th-minute goal gave Barca an early lead, but Mauro Arambarri’s 34th-minute equalizer secured a point for the hosts. This marked Barca’s fourth consecutive league game without a win, with two losses and two draws since mid-December, further denting their title hopes.

The match, however, was overshadowed by allegations of racism. Barca defender Alejandro Balde revealed post-match that he was racially abused by Getafe fans. Referee Pablo González Fuertes temporarily halted the game in the second half, following La Liga protocol. The stadium’s announcement warned that the match would be abandoned if the abuse persisted.

Barcelona coach Hans Flick strongly condemned the incident, stating, “Racism has no place in football or daily life. Those responsible should stay at home, not in stadiums.”

Adding to the night’s controversies, Elche reported that one of their players faced similar abuse at Sporting Gijón’s ground. Spanish football continues to grapple with racism, with high-profile cases like repeated attacks on Real Madrid’s Vinícius Júnior still fresh in memory. Urgent action is needed to combat this growing issue.
