A devastating fireworks accident struck the Veerarkavu Temple festival near Neeleswaram in Kerala’s Kasaragod district late Monday night, leaving more than 150 people injured, including eight in critical condition. The incident occurred around midnight, reportedly due to a fire that ignited a fireworks storage facility close to the temple grounds.

Festival-goers and nearby residents were caught off guard as explosions filled the night, causing widespread panic. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, and the injured were quickly transported to hospitals in Kasaragod, Kannur, and Mangaluru for treatment. The critically injured are receiving intensive care as authorities work to assess the full extent of the damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with preliminary reports suggesting a malfunction in the storage facility. This tragedy highlights ongoing safety concerns surrounding the use of fireworks at large gatherings, especially during festivals.

As the community reels from the shock, officials are urging stronger safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The Kerala government is expected to release a detailed report following the investigation, providing clarity on what led to this heartbreaking accident.
