Israel’s Strike on Iran: A Prelude to Total War

Israel’s recent attack on Iran has sparked a new wave of tensions in the Middle East, posing a significant threat to regional peace and stability. Recently, Israel attacked a military facility in Iran, killing four Iranian soldiers. After the attack, Israel officially claimed responsibility, saying it was intended to target Iranian military positions. Israel claims the attack was in retaliation for attacks by “Iran and its allies.”

Iran responded that it would continue to resist Israeli attacks on itself and its allies. The political crisis in the Middle East is gradually escalating. The longstanding animosity between Israel and Iran intensified with the recent attacks. Israel has recently taken offensive actions against Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Their conflict with Iran is not a new phenomenon.

However, this time, the direct attack on Iranian territory and claiming responsibility for the attack has made the issue more transparent and more serious. Israel sent a message to Iran that the war was not limited to Gaza and Lebanon. They consider Iran their “enemy” and will not back down in resistance despite their superpower. The attack was carried out on the orders of the Israeli prime minister and with the approval of the defence minister, which proves that Israel is willing to carry out unilateral attacks for its interests.

After this attack by Israel, the United States stated that they had no role in the attack. However, the U.S. government was already aware of this Israeli design. With the recent visit of U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to Israel and the particular importance of this visit, it can be said that Israel’s relations with the United States have become closer. Leaked secret documents revealed a joint U.S. and Israeli strategy to attack Iran.

It proves that the attack on Iran also has a profound relevance in the international context. On the one hand, some Middle Eastern countries are making diplomatic efforts to establish a ceasefire, and on the other hand, such aggressive Israeli actions are obstructing that process.

Iran has already announced that it will do its best to protect Gaza, Lebanon, and its territory. Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagri said they had carried out specific strikes on Iranian military targets and countered imminent threats against Israel. However, if Iran can and desires to retaliate, the conflict could escalate to a larger scale. Such a conflict between Iran and Israel in the Middle East could also involve other powers.

In particular, how the United States and its Western allies support Israel while simultaneously imposing sanctions against Iran and its allies risks prolonging and widening the conflict.

There have been several attempts at diplomatic peace in the Middle East, but these efforts have repeatedly failed due to mutual hostility between Israel and Iran. The recent peace talks mediated by Egypt and the Doha talks in Qatar have also failed to achieve the desired results. Israel has repeatedly declared that it will continue the war until Hamas is destroyed. Meanwhile, Iran says it will not accept any Israeli attack on its allies.

As a result, it is becoming increasingly difficult to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East. This attack threatens the security of the entire Middle East. In addition, efforts to restore the nuclear deal have also been complicated by the conflict. This attack against Iran further divides the international community. In particular, countries seeking mediation in the region face a different set of diplomatic obstacles.

Israel’s attack on Iran is a warning that the conflict could escalate in the coming days. If Iran retaliated by using its military force, it would increase the risk of an all-out war not only between Iran and Israel but across the Middle East. To establish peace in the Middle East, taking practical diplomatic steps in the region is necessary.

However, the region will be headed for further instability if this cycle of unilateral aggression and counter-attack continues. The shape of the future conflict depends on the strategic interests of the United States in attacking Israel, Iran’s defensive attitude, and the position of neighboring countries. This Israeli attack has further complicated the complex political situation in the Middle East. If such a conflict between Iran and Israel becomes more violent, it will pose a significant threat to regional and global peace.

The conflict has made it clear how urgent the need for peace and diplomatic stability is here. Such an attack would have only consequences and global as well as diplomatic polarization in Middle East politics and international relations. Therefore, at this time, the international community must work more consciously for peace and stability in the Middle East.
