South Africa has taken the lead in the series by winning the Mirpur Test. Chasing a target of 106 runs, they secured victory with 7 wickets in hand, putting them 1-0 ahead in the two-match Test series. South African bowlers wrapped up Bangladesh’s innings quickly on the fourth day, giving them a lead of 105 runs.
Markram’s side easily reached the target, losing just three wickets, all claimed by Taijul Islam. The second Test is set to begin on October 29.
Bangladesh had a poor start to the fourth day, losing Nayeem Hasan in the first over to a low Rabada delivery. Taijul Islam followed shortly, edging to slip off Mulder.
However, Mehidy Hasan Miraz fought hard at the other end, nearing a century with some fine shots. Unfortunately, he fell just three runs short of a hundred, caught at slip off Rabada for 97 runs. His innings featured 10 fours and a six from 191 deliveries.
Rabada took two of the three wickets on the fourth day, finishing with six for the innings. Keshav Maharaj claimed three, and Mulder took the last one.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto chose to bat first after winning the toss, but the team was dismissed for just 106 runs, struggling against South Africa’s attack. In reply, South Africa amassed 308 runs, led by Verreynne’s century. Bangladesh was on the brink of an innings defeat, but a solid partnership between Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Zakir Ali helped them reach 307 in their second innings.
