New Zealand has finally settled their long-standing score. In the second semifinal of the Women’s T20 World Cup held in Sharjah today, New Zealand defeated the West Indies by 8 runs. With this win, New Zealand has reached the T20 World Cup final for the first time in 14 years.

In the 2016 T20 World Cup, New Zealand was eliminated in the semifinals by the West Indies after losing by 6 runs. Eight years later, they have avenged that loss.

New Zealand previously reached the final of the Women’s T20 World Cup in the first two editions in 2009 and 2010. They lost to England in the 2009 final and to Australia in 2010. This time, their final opponent is South Africa, ensuring a new champion will be crowned in the Women’s T20 World Cup.

After winning the toss in Sharjah and opting to bat first, New Zealand posted a total of 128 for 9 wickets. Georgia Plimmer top-scored with 33 runs for New Zealand, while Isabella Gaze remained unbeaten at the end with a quickfire 20 off 14 balls.
