Brazilian football star Neymar Jr., sidelined for a year due to an ACL injury, is on the verge of a comeback. His club, Al Hilal, expects him to return to action this month, pending approval from Brazil’s medical team. Neymar’s potential return to the national team in the upcoming international fixtures will also depend on this medical clearance.
Neymar sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during a World Cup qualifier on October 17 last year. Despite a full year of recovery, the 32-year-old forward has not yet returned to competitive football. Currently in rehabilitation, Neymar resumed full training with Al Hilal last month. According to ESPN, he could make his comeback on October 21 against Al Ain in the AFC Champions League.
Having transferred to Al Hilal from PSG last year, Neymar’s debut for the Saudi club was delayed due to his injuries. After playing only five matches, he suffered another setback and has been out since. Now, Neymar’s return to the national team hinges on the assessment of Brazil’s team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar.
Brazilian outlet Globo reports that Lasmar will soon travel to Saudi Arabia to evaluate Neymar’s fitness. If cleared, Neymar will be included in Al Hilal’s final squad for their match on November 4. However, with Brazil set to announce their squad on November 1, it remains to be seen whether coach Diniz will include Neymar, depending on his recovery.
