China and Russia’s recent naval exercise ‘C-2024’ has stirred current international politics. The joint military exercise, which takes place off the coast of Zhanjiang in China’s southern Guangdong province, has sparked international reactions, particularly between the United States and NATO. The exercise in the disputed South China Sea is an essential display of military cooperation between China and Russia, demonstrating their military strength and strategic capabilities. Seven warships participated in the exercise, and its main objective was to counter maritime security threats. At Washington’s NATO summit, the 32-member force’s final statement referred to China as the centrepiece of the military alliance and said joint military actions by China and Russia pose a significant security threat to NATO. In particular, China’s growing military influence and close military ties with Russia have become a cause of concern for the Western world. According to NATO, China is acting as a ‘decisive enabler’ of war against Ukraine and Russia, which poses a threat to international security. However, China’s foreign ministry has said it has a fair and objective position on Ukraine, refuting NATO’s concerns. The United States also pays particular attention to this joint naval exercise between China and Russia.
