The Bangladesh Awami League has secured control over the state of Bangladesh for the fourth consecutive term, dispelling all uncertainties. Simultaneously, Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu, is set to assume the position of prime minister for the fourth consecutive term, marking the fifth such instance in Bangladesh’s history.

The 12th National Parliament election saw the absence of participation from BNP and similar parties, excluding several prominent political entities from the polling process. In the early hours of Monday, the election commission declared that Hasina’s Awami League had clinched a fourth consecutive victory, securing nearly 75% of the parliamentary seats. This achievement adds up to her fifth term as prime minister, encompassing her previous tenure from 1996 to 2001 and her return to power in 2009.

Sheikh Hasina’s resounding success garnered congratulations from leaders across the globe.

China has conveyed its congratulations to the President of the Awami League and Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, for the triumph of her party in the 12th national parliamentary elections. Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka, Yao Wen, met Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban on Monday morning to extend heartfelt congratulations on behalf of China.

In a press release, the Chinese ambassador applauded the successful conduct of the 12th National Parliament elections and the victory of the Awami League. He specifically congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her leadership.

The ambassador reiterated the commitment of Chinese leaders to collaborate with Sheikh Hasina, aiming to strengthen the longstanding friendship, enhance mutual trust, and deepen practical cooperation. The goal is to elevate the China-Bangladesh strategic partnership of cooperation to new heights.

Ambassador Yao highlighted the crucial development stage of both China and Bangladesh, emphasizing that China remains Bangladesh’s most reliable partner and friend in advancing their relations. Under the guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a model of mutual respect and win-win cooperation has been established between the two countries.

Notably, countries such as the US had pressured Hasina’s government leading up to the elections to ensure fair conduct, and Sheikh Hasina’s administration successfully addressed those concerns.
