EC Prepares for Credible Election
The Election Commission, in adherence to the Representation of the People Order (RPO) and the Electoral Act, has undertaken extensive preparations to uphold the integrity of the forthcoming parliamentary elections.
Recent enhancements to the RPO have bolstered the Election Commission’s authority, granting it augmented powers. Through these amendments, the EC now possesses the ability to nullify voting outcomes at affected centers upon detecting irregularities during post-voting investigations. Furthermore, the EC holds the authority to suspend the issuance of gazettes.
To streamline the electoral process, the EC will promptly release a public notification and appoint returning officers (ROs) and assistant returning officers (AROs). Empowered by legal mandates within electoral regulations, the ROs, supported by AROs, will oversee essential tasks ensuring the fairness of the elections. Additionally, the EC intends to dispatch a formal letter to the cabinet division, soliciting assistance and requesting the continuity of field-level government officers until the election results are officially announced.
