United States Congressman Andrew Garbarino praised Bangladesh’s economic growth over the past 14 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
During a meeting with Bangladeshi American expatriates conducted by Morshed Alam on August 18, 2023 in New York, United States, he made this remark. Andrew Garbarino represents New York’s Congressional District 2 in the United States.

Congressman Andrew Garbarino said, “I have learned a lot about Bangladesh and its successes and I have seen the nation’s growth in the last 14 years under the current prime minister’s leadership. I know elections are coming forth in January and she has turned over the election process to an independent commission to ensure that there are free and fair elections and to show the international community that there are free and fair elections.”
Garbarino highlighted the considerable interest in the upcoming elections in Bangladesh, reflecting Sheikh Hasina’s growing popularity.

“I hope the growth Bangladesh has seen with its economy, what it is doing with its energy, what it is doing with its infrastructure, and what it has done to combat extremism and terrorism if it continues I think Bangladesh should be an example after what it has accomplished to other nations, especially to democracies; and other countries should strive to have the success that Bangladesh has seen over the past decade and a half”, he added.
He also stressed the necessity of upholding the partnership with Bangladesh and praised its involvement in UN peacekeeping missions.
Who is Andrew Garbarino?
Andrew Reed Garbarino (born on September 27, 1984) is a Republican Party-affiliated American attorney and politician. He is a member of the United States House of Representatives, representing New York’s 2nd Congressional District. He began his tenure on January 3, 2021, which expires on January 3, 2025.
The Congressman serves on the House Financial Services Committee, the House Homeland Security Committee, and the House Ethics Committee. From 2013 to 2020, he served as the New York State Assemblyman for the 7th district. He was the former Minority Joint Conference Vice Chair for New York State Assembly.
As a graduate of Hofstra University, he worked at his family law firm prior to his 2013 election to the State Assembly.
